LETTER:Try practicing what you preach
September 29, 2002
There are several points I’d like to address in Erin Blasdell’s letter “Protect my freedom from religion” (Sept. 27). First of all, you mention diversity as your primary argument in this piece. In order for there to be diversity on a campus there must be differing views. If we are to respect these views it is necessary for them to be shared, otherwise we would never know they were different.
Secondly, by writing a letter in which you state that it is wrong for a person to impose their belief system on another person, you are essentially imposing your belief system on another person. If you want a person’s beliefs only to be shared in private, that would include yours as well.
Lastly, the same Constitution that allows you to express your views through the newspaper allows this man to express his. If your intention is to convince us that this is wrong, use the space in the Daily to convey an argument rather than an opinion.
