LETTER:It’s distasteful to clean some flicks
September 8, 2002
I hope Steve and Barbara Taylor read the Daily, because this letter is for them. These two good samaritans have decided to rid movies of all the profanity, nudity, violence and other filth they contain. They claim that “the movies still contain the same story line” despite the removal of previous said filth. I find it interesting then, that on their Web site (www.cleanflicks.com) one of their specials listed was “Mulholland Dr.”
On the Web site is this synopsis of “Mulholland Dr.” by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone: “This sinful pleasure is a fresh triumph for Lynch, and one of the best films of the year. Visionary daring, swooning eroticism and colors that pop like a whore’s lip gloss!” I don’t see how Mr. and Mrs. Taylor could remove all the eroticism and language and references to deity, from this movie, and still keep the same story line.
Movies like “Pulp Fiction” are made for a certain group of people, not young children or church-going folk. They are made for people like me, who like to swear, watch violence and nudity. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, get a life and take your business to Utah.
