LETTER:Habitat home a tribute to Campbell

Story County Habitat for Humanity is honored to be receiving donations in memory of Bob Campbell. We wanted to share with you who know and love Bob the tribute we will make with the generous donations. The memorials will help fund our 14th house in the county, the Peterson home. The Peterson house project seems a fitting way to express our regard for Bob Campbell and his family, they share a lot with the project.

It takes a community to build a Habitat house, and Bob and Ann have been active participants in that process.

Bob graduated from Iowa State and later worked at the ISU Press. This Peterson home also has strong ties to ISU. Marsha Peterson, the homebuyer, is an ISU student. She will be building her home alongside hundreds of other ISU students as they blitz the shell of the house during the university’s Homecoming Week, October 7-11, 2002.

The City of Ames is an important partner in the Peterson project. The lot was part of a former water tower site and was donated for affordable homeownership by the city. Ann Campbell was on the City Council while this partnership was forming.

Our goal is to dedicate the Peterson home on Dec. 15, which also happens to be the day after Bob’s birthday. No tribute can fully express the importance of a loved one to their family and friends, or to a community served so well, but we hope the Peterson house project will be a small symbol of our community’s love and appreciation for Bob Campbell.
