Ames presents Sept. 11 notice
September 10, 2002
Ames Mayor Ted Tedesco and City Council members took time to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, on Tuesday by presenting two new proclamations to the City of Ames.
Ames Police Chief Loras Jaeger and Ames Fire Chief Clint Peterson were both on hand to accept the official notice proclaiming Wednesday to be “Always Remember 9/11 Day.”
Tedesco said no one was more fitting to accept the honor than the heroes who protect Ames residents every day.
“We want to salute the heroes for their selfless compassion and we wish to honor all of the victims whose lives were cut tragically short one year ago,” Tedesco said. “Sept. 11 will be a day to mourn, reflect and rededicate ourselves.”
The City Council also proclaimed Sept. 6-17 to be American Character Week. People are encouraged to give something back to their communities in honor of the spirit of those who gave their lives to protect others during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Tedesco said.
