Cyclone volleyball team wins again
Although just three weeks into the season, the ISU volleyball team has already equaled the number of wins it had during the last three seasons combined.
The Cyclones won the Kangaroo Classic in Kansas City over the weekend, improving their record to 9-2, their best start since the 1997 squad opened the season with an 8-0 start.
Iowa State defeated Winthrop, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Duquesne and Youngstown State to claim the title, their second of the season.
The Cyclones captured the ISU Heritage Classic three weeks ago at Hilton Coliseum for their
Senior Sara Stribe led the way for the Cyclones in Kansas City, recording 196 assists for the tournament on her way to being named the tournament MVP.
Also named to the all-tournament team were sophomore Brittany Dalager and junior Renae Pruess.
Dalager collected 49 kills and 65 digs in the two-day tournament while Pruess recorded 56 kills and 23 digs.
Two others Cyclones averaged double digits in kills with freshman Amanda Craig totaling 50 and senior Mandi Harms 41.
Craig also had 34 digs.
Iowa State begins conference play this week when it travels to Norman, Okla. Wednesday to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.
First serve is set for 7 p.m.
The Cyclones will be back on home on Saturday when they place Texas Tech.
The game time is Saturday at 2 p.m.
Cyclone soccer falls to Minnesota
The ISU women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Minnesota Friday at the ISU Soccer Complex.
The Gophers improved to 4-1 with the win, while Iowa State fell to 3-2.
The winning goal came early in the second period when Minnesota’s Rachael Roth scored her fourth goal of the season, past ISU goalkeeper Beth Chapman.
Chapman recorded six saves on the day, keeping the match close throughout. Champman, Lindsey Lees and Tiffany Belz were cited by ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher for a well-played game.
Next action for the team is Friday when they travel to Massachusetts. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
