LETTER:Respect the rights of believers

In response to the letter in the Daily on Thursday, I would like to say that indeed there are people in Ames and on the Iowa State campus who also disagree with the District Court ruling on the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. I know many other people at Iowa State and in Ames would support me on this. Maybe they just haven’t spoken up yet.

I was shocked to read in the paper about the ruling. I think it is unfair for atheists to argue for their First Amendment right to freedom of religion and not talk about God when, as believers in God, we should have the same right to say “under God” in the pledge.

How can we as Americans deny the fact that this country was founded by people seeking religious freedom? If the Supreme Court starts to take away our rights to mention God, what will be next, taking “In God We Trust” off of our currency?

Or maybe even covering up the words on the east side of Parks Library that read “And Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free,” which is a direct quote from the Bible. These are just two of many things that could be taken away.
