ISU swimmers honored for GPA
Iowa State swimmers Kristen Vanek and Susanne Notbohm were named to the Women’s at-large Verizon District VII Academic All-America team.
Vanek, a junior from Peoria, Ill., had a 3.92 GPA in marketing and was voted to the first team.
At the 2002 Big 12 Championships, Vanek helped lead the Cyclones to a school-best fourth-place finish by placing seventh in the 1,650 freestyle, 10th in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle.
Notbohm, a sophomore from Oppenheim, Germany, posted a 3.84 GPA in physics and was named to the second team.
She was an NCAA qualifier in 2002, and finished 28th in the 200 IM and 33rd in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Championships.
She also placed sixth in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly events and 11th in the 100 freestyle at the 2002 Big 12 Championships, and competed on the second-place 800 freestyle team and third-place 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams.
Members of the Academic All-America first team advance to the national ballot for national Academic All-America consideration.

Youth basketball league available
Fun drills and games highlight this summer’s session of Little Dunkers, a youth basketball program offered by the Ames Parks and Recreation Department.
The program is open to all boys and girls in Kindergarten through 3rd grades.
Junior size basketballs and eight-foot hoops will be used. All sessions will take place at the Community Center twice a week from June 18-July 25.
The cost for the program is $30 for Ames residents and $40 for nonresidents.
Those interested can register at the Ames Park and Recreation Community Center or the Administrative Office.
