LETTER:Reagan takes great approach in column
May 1, 2002
I’ll admit, when I first started reading Cavan’s column, “Some people just not worth saving”, I thought “OK, this guy is asking for people to attack the Daily with mass letters about saying cruel things about overweight people.” But as I continued to read it more I understood his point.
I loved the approach he took with this topic. If he were to just come out and say what he really wanted to say about how stupid it is to gay bash and make fun of people because they are different, no one would have read it, no one would have taken the time to see what he had to say. Not the people who need to be reached anyway.
When the word “gay” is thrown out there, immediately, people get defensive and jump to whatever side they’re on. But, by taking the approach of the topic a different way, Cavan enticed people to continue to read, and ultimately get the message he was trying to convey.
I hope that the article made a lot of people realize how stupid they sound when they attack people just because they are different. Cavan did a great job.
