LETTER:Quirmbach best Senate candidate I
April 30, 2002
Are you concerned about the rise in tuition costs at Iowa State? Are you unhappy with the prospect of more tuition increases in the future? What you need is someone who will work for you in the Iowa Senate.
Herman Quirmbach has long been an advocate for public education. He has taught at both the high school and university level. His dedication to students has long been demonstrated and he will continue to advocate for students in his role as Iowa State senator.
Many in the legislature continue to propose cuts in funding for education, which results in tuition increases at the universities. These increases have the effect of limiting educational opportunities. Higher tuition will cause a drop in the enrollment of students from lower-income families.
Many students will be forced to leave the university before their graduation. Other students will not apply because they do not have the financial means to pay for these increased costs.
Iowa State is a land-grant university, whose goal is to give educational opportunity to all the people of Iowa – not just its wealthiest citizens. Herman Quirmbach is committed to expanding access to the university. He believes that students should become a part of the university community because of their talents and their hard work, not because of their fat pocketbooks. In his capacity as an economist, Herman Quirmbach has real solutions to the financial problems faced by Iowa.
Herman [Quirmbach] has dedicated many years to serving on the Ames City Council. On the city council, he has been a tireless and dedicated worker for the benefit of the people of Ames. As our senator, Herman Quirmbach will continue to work on our behalf. As our senator, he will advocate for full funding of public education. As our senator, Herman Quirmbach will fight for us. Please join me in supporting Herman Quirmbach in the June primary election.
