LETTER:Note to students: GSB worthless
April 1, 2002
In Friday’s Daily, the editorial asked the question of why nobody cares about GSB. Well, since the Daily always seems to know everything, I am surprised that they could not figure out this simple question.
The reason nobody cares is because GSB is a worthless organization that only accomplishes using some student money to run its daily activities.
Honestly, the only reason some of the people want to be in GSB is so they can use it as a resume padder. Why does this school need a government to distribute funds to clubs when a group of two people could do the same job?
I am sure GSB does some other wonderful things on campus, but when it comes right down to the basics it does not carry any weight in university decision-making.
I also feel kind of bad for the Board of Regents and other university leaders because they could be at an expensive restaurant eating their dinners, but instead they have to stay at their meetings to listen to some GSB representatives plead their hopeless case.
Every student already knows that our voice will not be heard when it comes to this university’s monetary policies.
I admit that I might sound a little pessimistic, but for the third time in a row GSB has failed to even slow down any tuition increase.
This is my third year here at Iowa State, and every year the tuition has increased at least 7 percent. Now I am going to be returning to my home state to finish my college career because my family can not afford Iowa State. I would thank the few in GSB that actually do try to help the student body, but what is the point?
