`Star Wars’ fans line up for merchandise
“Star Wars” aficionados snapped up the newest toys, figures and games from the forthcoming “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” as soon as the material hit shelves at midnight Tuesday.
Fresh merchandise included an 18-inch R2-D2 droid that is controlled by the user’s voice, as well as 20 different action figures.
Merchandise volume for “Attack of the Clones” is drastically lower than what it was for 1999’s “Episode I – Phantom Menace.” Executives at Lucasfilm Ltd. said they reduced the number of “Star Wars” products by almost half this time around, due to the overload of “Phantom Menace” toys that didn’t sell.
“Phantom Menace” advertised with heavy hitters like Pepsi, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell; “Attack of the Clones” is skipping the soda and fast-food deals. But General Mills cereals and Frito-Lay chips will still carry the new “Clones” characters, and 30 additional action figures will be released by the end of the year.
Jewel injured in riding accident
Pop singer Jewel fell from her colt Wednesday while on vacation at her boyfriend’s Texas ranch.
Though not a stranger to riding, Jewel lost control of her horse.
Her fall resulted in a broken collarbone and rib, as well as some bruises.
The injuries are not life-threatening, though Jewel is badly hurt, Ron Shapiro, co-president of Atlantic Records told The AP.
Jewel is perhaps best known for the hit “Who Will Save Your Soul.”
