Vander Platts to speak
Republican candidate for governor Bob Vander Plaats will speak at Ames High School Friday morning.
Vander Plaats, who is campaigning for the June 4 primary, will speak to Denny Cullinan’s senior government classes at 8:40 and 9:30 a.m. in room 121 of Ames High School.
Vander Plaats will also be at Grove Cafe, 124 Main St., from 7 to 8 p.m.
Friday.
City taking quarry names
The City of Ames is accepting suggestions for the naming of the Ames Quarry through May 8.
Forms can be picked up at any City facility or online at www.city.ames. ia.us/parkrecweb. For more information, call City Parks and Recreation at 239-5357.
Nature hike April 27
Ames Parks and Recreation and Story County Conservation are sponsoring the third Happy Trails Nature Hike April 27.
The hike through McFarland Park will be led by naturalist Nan Geske.
Pre-registration for the hike is available at the Ames Community Center, 5th Street and Clark Avenue, or the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 1500 Gateway Hills Park Drive.
Cost is $2 per person or $5 per family.

Church auction Saturday
Ames First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave., will host “Fun(d) Nite Auction” beginning at 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
Proceeds will go to church projects.
The church will also sponsor an indoor picnic at 5:30 p.m. to benefit the Appalachia Service Project.
Tiffany to lead workshop
Lois Tiffany, distinguished professor of botany, will present a workshop on edible mushrooms at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Iowa Arboretum, southwest of Luther.
Tiffany will speak about when and where to find types of mushrooms.
