Metal bands to play The Break
The Break, 115 Main St., will open its doors for local music this Friday when it hosts the electronic metal of Seven Point Six Two and Devil With Cheese. Both groups are offshoots of the popular Des Moines outfit godkillgod, which disbanded last year.
Devil With Cheese, featuring Taco and Graham Jennings from godkillgod, is quickly gaining attention in central Iowa, though it has only played a handful of shows.
The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and also features KloudNine and Shrapnel.
Cantamus choir performs Sunday
Iowa State’s 65-member all-women chorus, Cantamus, will be performing at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall.
Cantamus will perform a variety of pieces, from a wide range of countries.
Concert goers will hear pieces from Hungary, Germany, France, Finland, Venezuela and the United States, says Kathleen Rodde, Cantamus conductor and adjunct assistant professor of music.
“In the program, the music I select really reflects women’s voices,” Rodde says. “It brings out the color of their voices, and is quite dramatic.”
There will also be a women’s octet performing modern popular and jazz songs during the middle of the concert.
