LETTER:BLUR founded by many, not just one
April 7, 2002
First off I would like to thank you for this weeks coverage of LGBT Awareness and LGBT related issues. I have observed that in the past the Daily and Iowa State as a whole appear to have a mentality that being LGBTA is OK as long as it is not visible. I have also observed that this attitude has been changing to a more open acceptance of LGBTA people. I’m hoping that in the coming year we will see even more “awareness” other than just one week a year.
The main reason I am writing is in response to articles I have been quoted in. In most of them I am credited as founder of BLUR, the Iowa State Bisexual Support and Discussion Group. I would like to correct this; I am not the founder of BLUR, but rather a founder of BLUR.
I would like equal, if not more, credit be given to both Victor Jason Raymond and Abby Lynn Hansen for the creation of this group. Victor Raymond initiated the actual creation process, and both Victor and Abby have put enormous effort into the success of BLUR.
During the process of having BLUR grow from a thought in our heads to an event driven organization, we created bonds and a sense of bisexual pride within a university that does not seriously recognize our existence. Victor and Abby, this is a shout out to both of you.
Once again, I thank the Daily for their goal of informing people with as little personal bias as possible. I see great things happening in the coming year. I wish Cavan Reagan the best; I am confident he will further the professionalism of the Daily and increase its scope to include a greater variety of issues here at Iowa State University.
