Library book sale this weekend

The Ames Public Library will hold its annual book sale this weekend.

The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library, begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission on Friday is $2 and will be free the remainder of the weekend.

Paperback books will be 50 cents and hardcover books $1. On Sunday, shoppers can buy an entire box of books for $5.

Police association walk/run Saturday

The Ames Police Benevolent Association will hold a 5K Walk/Run at 9 a.m. Saturday to benefit the Ames Boys and Girls Club and the Ames Police Benevolent Association.

Registration is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Cost of the run is $20, which includes a T-shirt and food.

Conservation center now open

The Story County Conservation Center will open to the public for its seasonal weekend viewing Saturday.

Activities include photo display and exhibits, trails and a bird-watching area. The center also has several county brochures.

Center weekend hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is also open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Volunteer hosts are needed to greet and assist visitors.
