Protest raised by ISU softball coach
According to a report initially published in the Waco Tribune, ISU women’s softball coach Ruth Crowe protested the play of Saturday and Sunday’s games against Baylor because the University held a public prayer as part of its pregame ceremonies at Getterman Stadium.
Baylor is a private institution and according to the university’s web site, it is “the largest Baptist university in the world.”
Crowe would not comment on the issue.
Jen Bice, pitcher and co-captain of the ISU softball team said she and her teammates didn’t know about the protest until after the game Sunday.
Bo Carter, assistant commissioner of the Big 12 Conference, said Crowe had not filed anything yet with the Big 12. He added that, for years, Baylor has held similar religious ceremonies before its football games.
