LETTER:Pot-smoking hippies got it all wrong

Chad Hayward

I’d just like to comment to the pot-smoking hippies from “Time for Peace” that the Marines have as much a right to display their tools during Veishea as the LGBTAA have a right to post sexually explicit posters around campus. Were parents given a choice about whether their children saw these posters? No.

I don’t recall being asked if I wanted to look at porn on my way to class. That’s why many people took some initiative and tore down most of that smut.

Now, were parents given the choice to “expose” their children to the Marines’ tools of the trade at Veishea? Yes. No one was forced to visit the Marines’ display. “Time for Peace” claims to want to protect children. Allowing children to get exposure to the use of firearms from professionals (rather than their friends at school) helps to protect children, not harm them.

However, throwing up posters all around campus of people in sexual acts doesn’t protect children, does it?
