LETTER:Note to males: we’re more than a body
March 1, 2002
I was walking down the hall of Friley to go to breakfast with my friends but stopped because I was completely offended by the material on two doors that were just down the hall from me. I couldn’t believe it. The guys’ doors were covered with practically nude female pictures from magazines. It completely struck me. I was upset.
Yes, everyone has a right to the freedom of speech and whatnot, however, if the cost is someone else’s rights, than you’ve violated that privilege. In this case, someone violated my rights and the rights of many other females who found the posting on the door offensive.
Guys look at females as if we’re sex objects. We’re not. We are intelligent, successful, talented creations of God. He didn’t create us to be worshiped. We’re so much more than what guys make us out to be.
Despite being offended, my friends and I chose not to contact the Department of Residence because they would likely take away the right of having stuff on our doors completely. For me it’s handy to have a board so people can leave messages. But what I want to see changed is that people not post such offensive material on their doors. They can have it in their rooms because then we females that pass their doors will see a nice, clean, unoffensive door.
To the male population: Just remember that we females are more than just a body, and that we too are human beings and have feelings.
