LETTER:Hypocrisy evident in Plum case
March 12, 2002
How ironic and hypocritical of us – Nicole Plum gets ten years for killing her baby while all recipients of abortions and abortionists, doing the same thing, go scot-free. Something is wrong here.
No one can condone or justify what she did. But how is it that the other approach is all right? Life is a continuum of biological development – from conception onward to natural death. We may deny this objective truth, but denial does not change the facts. And, if the denial is protected by law which arbitrarily states that at the stage of the continuim within the woman’s body, killing is all right, then don’t be surprised or shocked when our young see through our hypocrisy. What we do speaks so loud they cannot hear what we say.
We have condoned sexual freedom. If an unwanted pregnancy occurs, take a pill, get an abortion. But whatever you do, don’t kill the baby yourself. If you do, you will be a murderer.
Choices have consequences. Actions have consequences. And, in the case of human reproduction, we are dealing with matters of life and death. Let us be honest about it all.
