Book signing Friday in Union

ISU professors will be selling and signing a book they helped write Friday in the Memorial Union, which will also be available to buy at the Iowa State Conference On Race and Ethnicity.

“Outside In: African-American History in Iowa, 1838-2000” focuses on the difficulties African-Americans have faced in Iowa, as well as their contributions to the state.

There were 36 volunteer contributors to the book; four are ISU professors.

Three of the four ISU authors, as well as others from around the state, will be in the Union between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Workshop will cover family issues

Family Resource Counselors of the Ames Community Schools is sponsoring “Heart to Heart: What Parents Want to Know,” a morning of discussions and workshops. Topics covered include bullying, Ames schools and issues facing parents and students.

The workshops, which are free, are Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. To register, call 239-3745.
