Film shows another side of president
“Journeys with George,” a documentary that shows a different side of George W. Bush on his campaign trail, will debut at the South by Southwest film festival Friday.
Some White House aides are worried the film will make Bush look unpresidential, according to the Associated Press.
Others, however, saw the film differently.
“We do think it will provide an interesting avenue to see the lighter side of a long and grueling campaign journey,” said White House spokeswoman Jeanie Mamo.
The documentary was created by Alexandra Pelosi, an NBC News producer who covered Bush’s campaign in 1999.
“Stop filming me. You’re like a head cold,” Bush jokingly tells Pelosi in one scene. “This is going to be a lousy documentary.”
Other portions of the film show Bush joking with reporters and making funny faces.
However, it also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the carefully planned rallies, where supporters hold hand-painted signs provided by the Bush campaign.
Pelosi said she hopes the film will provide a glimpse of the president’s real personality.
“He was a great person to go on a road trip with. He was a lot of fun,” she said.
