LETTER:Moss just another pathetic sports fan

Nate Headrick

I loved Moss’s column on hockey; it shows how pathetic sports fans are these days. I’m sorry you’re just like the rest of millions of sheep with an attention span of a four-year-old. It’s sad that Americans will only watch a sport if there are 8 trillion points scored in a game.

People can no longer see the skill it takes to play these games or appreciate it. If there aren’t points scored every time they blink, the sport is considered boring. I understand that sports must adjust to the times, but I don’t believe in sports changing rules just because the average impatient American won’t watch it.

Sports weren’t played for TV ratings, they used to be played for fun and tradition. Hockey has in fact tried to play to your wishes.

The NHL has shrunk the size of the crease, allowing more goals to count, and has taken off a skater in overtime for four-on-four hockey to give more room and a better chance of someone winning the game.

People watch hockey because of the speed, the skill, the non-stop action, and because hockey players don’t miss games for lame excuses like in baseball.

I love football out of everything, but think of the 40-second clock in between every play, and the fact that the average play only takes about 5 or 6 seconds, you’re watching mostly dead time. The fact that you still watch MTV also says a lot about you and the rest who think just like you.
