LETTER:Hauser decision defies all logic
February 14, 2002
Most of the points I wanted to make have been made by the 50 other people who have written into the Daily about how stupefying the firings of Tennessen, Weiskircher and Dennis were. Even so I feel the need to mention two things.
The first is that I don’t think it’s ethical, though it’s not the most horrible thing I’ve seen on this campus. I was here during the Jischke administration.
The second is that it defies all logic. Having appeared in the Toons probably wouldn’t have hurt the Daily at all, and it certainly wouldn’t have hurt as much without all the publicity that the Daily, via Andrea Hauser’s firing the three ladies in question, gave on its own.
Furthermore I have heard more people than I would care to count make comments about how the firings made them lose what little respect they had for the Daily to begin with.
It seems to me this move did the opposite of protecting the Daily’s integrity. Andrea Hauser, do something smart. Hire them back before it gets even uglier.
