Democrats sponsor soup supper, comedy
This Saturday night, stand-up comedy and the Democratic party will combine to form the “Comedy Club Soup Supper,” sponsored by the Story County Democrats.
The event, which will take place 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Collegiate Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way, is both a publicity event for John Norris, a Democratic candidate for the fourth Congressional District, and a forum for the comic talents of the Story County Democrats.
“I have a very creative co-chair, and he thought that this would be a fun idea,” said Jan Bauer, chairwoman of the Story County Democratic Party. “We’ve got a lot of talent.”
The talent includes Peter Orazem, professor of economics and member of a local comedy troupe, she said. Orazem does “economics by day, stand-up [comedy] by night,” Bauer said.
Other performers includes George McJimsey, professor and chairman of history, who will be doing a take-off on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update,” and retired professor Bill Boon, landscape architecture professor emeritus, who will take part in a skit called “Rockin’ and Talkin’.” The skit features two senior citizens sitting on the front porch of a retirement home, discussing life and political issues, Bauer said.
The event, which also is a soup supper, is free to the public, although donations will be accepted at the door.
