LETTER:Toons advertisement just a sarcastic joke
February 12, 2002
Have you ever noticed what goes on in Toons before? It is filled with comics that poke fun at everyday life to make people laugh, giggle or maybe just create a little smile. Can’t you take a little joke? We’re in college, right? So we should be smart enough to know a sarcastic joke when we see it. How many Daily readers actually think there are editors in charge of obscenities, slander, libel, maliciousness, tom foolery and fiction?
Did you actually fire them because “their depiction in Toons could harm the integrity of the Daily?” Could? Or did you fire them because they gave support to another newspaper? If that’s the case, you should have said so in your interview. I think firing them was the wrong thing to do. What they did was funny. If you think it was actually harmful, maybe you should have reprimanded them or had them write an article about it. But in any case, learn to take a joke and laugh when someone pokes a little fun at you.
