LETTER:Greeks should use their fathers’ money wisely

Jess Eide

Kohne Gitchel, I read your response to Mr. Twombley’s letter (“Stereotypes DO hurt greek reputation, Feb. 22), and I decided that to ensure that you get the most out of your father’s money, I would try to correct some of the mistakes in your letter. You see, the stereotypes you write, of “myths of widespread alcoholism, hazing, violence, and elitist behavior” is only correct on the elitist part. My view and most other students’ view of a typical greek is one that is here on his parents’ money (whom usually lives in Illinois), and drives a $15,000 vehicle. And if he is an especially hard worker, puts in all of 15 hours a week at his first job where he was not employed by . you guessed it, daddy.

In fact many greeks have so little to do that they try to make a movie written over 20 year ago an issue – “Animal House”).

However I guess I don’t, as Kohne puts it, “like many of your underclassmen have little to no realistic knowledge of ISU’s diverse greek community.” I guess to realize that I’d have to sleep in the same room as the rest of my roommates and have a set amount of time set aside for my house’s sanctioned events, then I suppose I could go to Peeples and have a few drinks. Like all the rest of the diverse people in the greek community (diverse means different).

As for your last comment, “I suggest that in the future TRA deny resumes written in crayon.” And people think greeks are elitist; go figure. So the next time you load up the Lexus to go to Illinois, (in between frat functions), remind Dad not to write your check in crayon.
