LETTER:Kix should research before writing
February 18, 2002
In regards to Paul Kix’s column, “I know it’s cold, show me what I want to see,” I believe he should research some information before he goes writing slander to cut down someone’s profession.
First off, I am a sports fan to the fullest. I go to every home basketball game and see you, Paul, sitting there courtside with your little notepad trying to gather some information to talk about in your next article. I am a Cyclone fan through and through. This article had nothing to do with sports, though. The first fact you need to know is that the reason people tune into the local news is for the weather, not for sports. That is why sports is at the end of the show. It is a business and weather is what sells.
Also, you make fun of the profession of being a meteorologist. The meteorology program here at Iowa State is widely recognized as a strong program. It is also one of the toughest majors at Iowa State, so I wonder why you would insult such a profession.
Paul, I would like to see you get through Calculus 3, or even Physics 222. Oh that’s right, you can’t do math, that is why you are a writer. So in conclusion, I would like to say get your facts straight before you write about a topic you know little about, or else switch your major, because you won’t get a job writing articles like this.
