Local music group presents clinic

The Ames Area Music Group is sponsoring the Audio Solutions Clinic at 6:30 tonight in the Gallery Room of the Memorial Union.

The clinic will center on an entry-level practical discussion on sound systems, PAs and other audio equipment. Ames’ Bi-Fi Records and Rieman Music will provide door prizes.

Magnetic Fields signs album deal

The Magnetic Fields have signed a multiple-album deal with Nonesuch records, according to Nonesuch’s Web site.

The indie pop band’s first album is due in late 2002.

Fields’ songwriter/singer/ multi-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt will, however, be allowed to release other projects outside the confines of the label. In addition to the Magnetic Fields, he is involved with Future Bible Heroes, Gothic Archies, the 6ths and others.

George Michael’s house burglarized

George Michael lost $144,000 in paintings, jewelry and clothing when his London home was burglarized Sunday. Thieves also stole his $114,000 Aston Martin car.

Michael was not present at the time of the burglary.

Michael resides in a suburb of Hampstead. His home is valued at $43 million.

Collins weds again for the fifth time

Actress Joan Collins, 68, tied the knot for the fifth time Sunday, this time to 36-year-old Percy Gibson, a theater company manager. The two met when Collins starred in “Love Letters,” a play that toured the United States last year.
