LETTER:Daily decision to fire editors the correct one
February 14, 2002
This letter is aimed at everyone who thinks the three editors have been wronged in some way. You are wrong. First and foremost every publication in the world has a rule, or many rules about appearing in or being quoted in competing media venues. If you find this hard to believe, feel free to call the Des Moines Register or the Ames Tribune and ask them their policies on the subject.
It makes no difference whether or not their comments were meant to be humorous. All three editors, who should have known better, acted in an unprofessional manner.
If the Daily strives to be the best college newspaper in the country, those efforts are only undermined by staff members who don’t know the better part of discretion. As for all the people comparing Hauser to Hitler, I am glad that you will never rise to the challenge of a management position, because it is clear you place more importance on being popular than on making tough choices and running a successful business.
