Veishea boycott bill up for vote
February 28, 2002
The Inter-Residence Hall Association will vote during Thursday’s meeting on a proposal stating it will boycott Veishea if its requests are not met by certain administrators.
The proposal, “Non-celebratory Celebration,” states that during Veishea security policies should ease up in residence halls, such as altering the alcohol and visitor policies.
If passed, the bill will be presented to President Gregory Geoffroy, Department of Residence Director Randy Alexander and the Veishea co-chairs.
A new proposal that will restrict funding requests for events will also be presented. The proposal was written by TRA at-large David Breutzmann and TRA President Keith Twombley.
“Right now if someone puts an event on, after it’s over they can come to IRHA and ask for money,” Twombley said. “It’s generally a bad idea.”
Twombley said they have a “fair amount” of requests for funding and it would be better to hear the requests and approve the funding prior to the event.
“A lot of times people want to put on a show or have some activity planned, and res hall students come to us for funding,” Twombley said. “It’s important to make sure we fund things beforehand as opposed to doing it afterward.”
IRHA will meet in the Wallace-Wilson commons conference room Thursday at 7 p.m.
