LETTER:Serious questions raised about Hauser

Tom Plagge

Monday’s article about the dismissal of three Daily editors raised some serious questions about Andrea Hauser’s handling of the situation. First and foremost, was why the editor in chief’s response to the supposed offense was so outrageously disproportionate. But there are other questions, too. For instance, why wasn’t Toons contacted until after the fact? Why weren’t the students given a warning, or at least a chance to defend their actions? And why, given the Daily’s reputation for grammatical and factual errors, was Hauser so eager to dispose of three experienced editors?

This whole situation may seem like a joke, but I’m sure it’s not a funny one for the three students whose careers will be affected. Andrea Hauser must be held accountable for her actions. If the Daily cannot prevent such unprofessional extremism on its own, then perhaps GSB should intervene to ensure that $89,000 in student fee money is not being put into the wrong hands.
