First Ames Green Caucus draws more than 20

Campaign finance reform, alternative energy resources, and the U.S. farm bill were among the resolutions discussed at the Green Party caucus Monday night.
More than 20 people gathered in an Ames High classroom to elect central committee delegates, conduct party business and make known their discontent with the two primary political parties.
“I think a lot of people who may have been disillusioned by two-party politics were able to express sentiments that are often unheard by our nation’s leaders,” said Matt Denner, president of ISU Campus Greens.
People who went to the caucus also discussed the three gubernatorial candidates running on the Green ticket and candidates for other state and local offices.
The key values of the Green party and the steps of the caucus were broken down to the newcomers to the movement.
“There were a lot of new faces tonight and new opinions that came with them,” Denner said.
Jeff Hall, Green party secretary for Story County, said he credits the larger-than-anticipated attendance to increased interest in the Green party.
“I think with issues like Enron and campaign finance reform more and more people are going to want to be involved in a positive solution,” he said.
