The woman two ISU football players are charged with sexually assaulting is the sister of former Cyclone offensive lineman Marcel Howard and current ISU linebacker Aaron Howard.

Ashley Howard, freshman in anthropology, declined to comment but agreed to the release of her name.

Brent R. Nash, 20, 7370 Larch Hall, and Royce A. Hooks, 20, 320 Hillcrest Ave. #18, have been charged with second-degree sexual assault following an incident at an off-campus party Jan. 26.

According to the complaint filed with the Ames Police Department, “the victim decided to leave and upon going into a dark coat room, she was assaulted sexually . against her will.”

Nash, sophomore in liberal arts and sciences, and Hooks, junior in exercise and sports science, both admitted to assaulting Howard in the complaint filed Tuesday. The two were arrested and released Tuesday from the Story County Jail after posting $25,000 bond.

Sgt. Mike Johns, Ames Police Department, said he is uncertain whether the department has any more interviews to conduct in its investigation.

“There may be more,” he said. “We haven’t identified any that we will do in the next day or two.”

Dean of Students Pete Englin said he doesn’t know yet whether the university will act.

“Clearly we have indication that a crime has occurred, and, if true, that would constitute a violation of the student disciplinary regulations,” Englin said.

Sexual assaults are considered “major cases” that are referred to the All-University Judiciary, composed of two students, two faculty or staff members and one faculty or staff chairman, he said.

ISU football head coach Dan McCarney suspended both Hooks and Nash from the team after the arrests Tuesday.

They were teammates for the past two years with Marcel and Aaron Howard.

Aaron Howard redshirted his freshman year and was on last season’s team that attended the Independence Bowl.

Marcel Howard is a four-time letter winner for the Cyclones who has played both right and left tackle during the past three seasons, according to the Iowa State Athletics Web site. He made the Second Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2000 and was an ISU Athletic Council Academic Honoree in 2001.

Marcel Howard graduated in December with a biology degree.
