RCA meeting structure changes discussed

The Inter-Residence Hall Association opened the spring semester by discussing a change in RCA meeting patterns from separate-house to hall-wide meetings.

Changing RCA from the current house meeting schedule is something that will be discussed further this semester, RCA President Jennie Kingery said at Thursday night’s meeting.

“There are still house meetings on each and every floor, and the president and at-large representative go from the house meetings and report to the hall meetings,” she said. “We plan on changing it, but it is not defined as to how we will be changing it as of yet.”

Since the number of freshmen in the halls will be increasing to almost 75 percent, the change will help avoid an all-freshman executive, Kingery said.

Will Tinder, RCA at-large pro tempore, introduced a bill to allocate $500 to Barker House in Lyon Hall to defray production costs of a play for Varieties 2002.

Ruben Hidalgo, junior in marketing, is directing the play called “Ray and Julie: A West Campus Story,” which will show at 9 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. Barker House residents already have purchased supplies for the play, Hidalgo said.

“We were told at the end of last semester that we could present our bill for funding to RCA, but they didn’t meet for two weeks and we couldn’t ask for money after the event,” he said. “So we went to IRHA.”

Students’ finances were hit hard after the students bought the supplies, Tinder said.

“We are in a world of hurt to put this on,” he said. “We have cast members from every association. Since we are the only hall entering into the event, we do a good job of representing IRHA.”

The bill was made into a general order for consideration at the next IRHA meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chessman Lounge.
