ISU men fall in Manhattan
January 20, 2002
The road hasn’t been kind to Iowa State and the trend continued on
Saturday
as the Kansas State Wildcats dropped the Cyclones, 63-52, in a Big 12
Conference game.
Iowa State is now 0-5 on the road this season (1-3 in the Big 12, 9-10
overall.)
Larry Reid led the Wildcat assault scoring 18 points. As a team Kansas
State finished 22 of 58 from the field (38 percent.) The Wildcats held
Iowa
State to 35 percent (15 of 43) and the Cyclones didn’t help themselves,
going 16 of 28 from the free throw line.
Tyray Pearson, who is second in the Big 12 in scoring average at 19.2
points a game, was held slightly below his average with 15. Jake
Sullivan
was the only other Cyclone to break double digits scoring 10.
Pearson also had nine rebounds.
Kansas State took control of the contest during the first 10 minutes
of the
game. The Wildcat defense held Iowa State to one field goal while
outscoring
the Cyclones 15-5 and forced eight turnovers.
Iowa State cut the lead to seven, 30-23 at halftime, but could never
fully
recover.
The Cyclones get to return home, but things are going to get tougher.
No.4
Kansas, fresh off a 74-67 win over No. 5 Oklahoma will be Iowa State’s
opponent Wednesday in Hilton Coliseum. Game time is 8 p.m.
