Bra book signing in library Wednesday

Anyone who has an interest in bras is encouraged to attend a book and bra signing from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the Fireplace Reading Room at Parks Library.

Jane Farrell-Beck and Colleen Gau, co-authors of “Uplift: The Bra in America,” will explain what went into the book and what the duo has found out since completion of the book in November.

Farrell-Beck is university professor of textiles and clothing; Gau is president of a textiles conservation firm.

The person who brings the oldest bra will receive a free copy of the book.

The book looks at the evolution and history of bras and how technology has changed over time to fit changing needs. It also tells about bras from a health point of view and the economic impact for consumers.

Parks Library, the University Bookstore, Margaret Sloss Women’s Center and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences are sponsoring the event.
