Writing Center now just for English classes

The ISU Writing Center, 418 Ross Hall, will now only offer free consultations to students working on papers for ISU English courses. Staff reductions caused by funding cuts and a shortfall of faculty volunteer hours have forced the center to reduce its services.

Students who want assistance with other coursework should contact the Academic Success Center, 1076 Student Services Building, which provides writing tutors for a fee.

Brown scholarship applications available

Applications for the new Maxine E. and Dennis G. Brown scholarships – four $1,000 scholarships awarded to students of color and six $500 international study awards – are now available.

The scholarships for persons of color are available to incoming first-year and incoming transfer students who choose a major in the College of Education. The international experience scholarships are available to undergraduate students who plan to complete international study or other international experience during the next summer or fall.

Preference for both scholarships will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. Interested students should contact the College of Education or visit the college’s Web site, www.educ.iastate.edu. The application deadline for the study-abroad scholarships is Jan. 25. The deadline for the incoming College of Education student scholarships is Feb. 15.
