Meeting to discuss biking conditions

Friends of Iowa Central Biking will discuss biking conditions on the ISU campus during their meeting Jan. 22.

Doug Houghton, program manager for the Department of Public Safety; Lisa Orgler, landscape architect for Facilities Planning and Management; and Cathy Brown, program coordinator for Facilities Planning and Management will speak to the group of local cyclists.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Paul Conference Room of Youth and Shelter Services, 420 Kellogg Ave.

Exhibit at library features brick piers

An exhibit created by the Ames Heritage Association featuring Downtown’s brick piers is on display at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., until March 16. The exhibit features the story behind each historic tile that decorates the piers, which mark street corners on 5th Street.

The exhibit is on display on the mezzanine level of the library. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Conservation center wants volunteers

Story County officials are looking for volunteers to help during the winter months for data entry. They also are looking for people to help during an ice-fishing event Feb. 9 or monthly, two-hour Older Wiser Livelier Seniors program.
