LETTER:Bathroom etiquette comments sad but true
January 24, 2002
Cavan Reagan’s comments on restroom etiquette would have been very funny if not for the disturbing fact that they are true. One would think that basic potty-training would be a prerequisite for admittance in college for the non-handicapped, but sadly that isn’t so. I made a comment to someone on the way out of the restroom about the above, intending it as a light-hearted comment to alleviate my frustration at seeing the only unoccupied stall in that restroom a mess.
I then realized I hadn’t heard him flush. Why he didn’t, I don’t know. He seemed to have all four limbs in functioning order, and could see well enough. So I must surmise that, like many far too many people on campus, he was just too lazy.
Now, as to the reason I called all of this disturbing: What does it say about “us” as a whole when our bathrooms are filthy because we are too lazy to push a small lever? That rather than exert such a tiny amount of energy we would rather have our excrement just floating around, waiting for our return.
