20 Texas overcame a 38-27 halftime deficit to beat the No. 4 Cyclones

in Austin, Texas Wednesday night.

Iowa State was led by point guard Lindsey Wilson who scored 17 points.

Tracy Gahan contributed 16 and Angie Welle scored 14 points while

battling

back spasms, but the `Big Three’ weren’t enough as Longhorn Stacy

Stephens

scored 12 points in the final eight minutes, including the winning

layup

with 50 seconds left.

Iowa State had a final chance, but Mary Cofield missed a three-pointer

from

the corner as the buzzer sounded.

Stephens, along with Tracy Cook led the Longhorns with 16 points each.

The Cyclones shot 15 of 23 in the first half to build an 11-point

lead, but

Texas went on a 15-7 run to cut into the lead, and helped itself by

outrebounding Iowa State 39-31. Iowa State finished the game making 24

of 47

shots while Texas drained 30 of its 68 attempts.

The Longhorns are off to their first 3-0 start in conference play ever

and

are 11-2 overall.

Next up for the Cyclones is a chance for redemption in the Lone Star

State

when they battle the Texas A&M Aggies at 2p.m. Saturday in College

Station,

Texas.
