CyRide to celebrate 50 millionth rider
City officials will hand out prizes to people waiting for the bus on Storm Street to celebrate CyRide’s 50 millionth rider from 7:15 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Members of the Ames City Council and Transit Board will be counting people getting on the bus. The 50 millionth rider will receive a $500 gift certificate to a local store. The next five riders will receive $50 gift certificates.
City boards search for applicants
People who want to become more involved in local issues may want to consider applying for one of 32 openings on City boards and commissions.
The positions will be open on April 1, 2002, but applications will be accepted through Feb. 15.

Community leaders to read poetry
The Ames Public Library is having a “Winter Poetry Reading” at 7 tonight in the FTB Auditorium. Community members, including Ted Tedesco, Clare Bills, Gina Millsap, Letitia Hansen, Susan Bedell, Kirk Daddow, Kristie Northup, and Joni Palmer, will read their favorite winter poem at the event.
