Tax refund for textbooks available

Students who purchased textbooks from the University Book Store may be eligible to receive a refund for the sales tax paid.

Students who wish to receive the refund must fill out an application, which is available on the GSB Web site, www.gsb.iastate.edu.

According to the Web site, students will receive 6 percent of the amount of their purchase in the form of a tax refund from the state of Iowa. An original receipt must be attached to the form.

Director still needed for MSA

The search to fill the director position in Minority Student Affairs is still under way, but search committee members expect the position to be filled by July 1.

The position became left vacant when Rafael Rodriguez resigned in June.

“We’ve just advertised for the position in the fall,” said Teresa Branch, interim director of Minority Student Affairs. “We’re still in the process of reviewing all of the applications.”

The search committee, which consists of staff, faculty and one student, will meet next week to review the applications, she said.

“Now is our high-volume time,” said Branch, associate vice president for student affairs. “So we need to get the position filled.”

Two other positions have been left empty as well – a program coordinator and a program assistant. These positions have been open for several months and will be left vacant until the director position is filled.

“The new director should have a say in the hire of those positions,” Branch said.

Currently, both of these are filled with an interim coordinator and assistant.

“We will make every effort to get the position filled during the school year,” Branch said.
