LETTER:Why pay when condoms are free?
January 30, 2002
I would like to thank Blaine Moyle for his column (“Condoms in dorms a responsible plan”). It was well-written and thought out.
There were some great points to the column, but there is some information in it that has a few faults too.
First, the point that we can’t stick our heads in the sand about sex is a great one. Most people I know use condoms on a regular basis.
If I talk to a friend that hasn’t, I will ask them why not. Some call it a thrill, some just don’t care, and others just didn’t want to go to the store, as Blaine suggested.
The fact is, if someone wants a few condoms, there are plenty of places to go get them for FREE. The Margaret Sloss Women’s Center has a jar of them just sitting out by the entrance.
Planned Parenthood, which is interested in prevention as well as women’s services, provide free condoms if you stop by their office as well.
However, the plan to put condoms in the C-Store does not seem a viable option because they close at 5 p.m. on Friday and aren’t even open on Saturday.
Most of the time, this is not a problem, but when you can get condoms free, why pay for them?
But please, to all who read this, always use a condom, we aren’t invincible, even if we think we are.
