Ames man charged with robbery
An Ames man suspected of robbing the Cub Foods branch of First National Bank of Ames is in Ames Police custody after he was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery.
§, 27, was arrested Monday night and is being held on a $20,000 bond, said Sgt. Mike Johns, Ames Police.
Kuntzelman, 301 Main St., Apt. C, was apprehended without a struggle, Johns said.
According to the police report, a suspect described as a white male with a beard, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, approached a teller window at Cub Foods, 3121 Grand Ave., and presented a note claiming he was armed and demanded money.
Johns said the teller responded to the demands and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. Upon receiving the money the suspect exited the building and fled on foot through the parking lot, Johns said.
Three employees – two tellers and a manager – were on duty, but no one was injured and no weapons were displayed, Johns said.
Personnel at the main office of First National Bank refused comment.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation will work with the Ames Police Department on the ongoing investigation.
