Story County Emergency Management Agency is asking those in Story County to refrain from traveling in light of treacherous roads. The majority of roads are still impassable, as of 4:59 p.m. Sunday, according to the agency.

“Our plows resumed working at 2 p.m. this afternoon, but the winds are quickly closing the roads and progress is being slowed significantly due to vehicles that are stuck on the roadway,” said Darren Moon, Story County engineer, in a release. “Plows will work until darkness tonight and then cease operations for the safety of our crews and so we don’t hit cars covered by snow.”

Workers will resume plowing at 5 a.m. Monday and an update on road conditions will be provided at 7 a.m. on the “Story County Emergency Management” Facebook page.

The release states while conditions may not seem as extreme in cities, they are “still very treacherous in open areas.” The wind is supposed to decrease throughout the evening, but the agency warns that it will still take a significant amount of time to clear the roads.

UPDATE (8:25 p.m.): “The eastbound lane on Lincoln Way, just east of Hayward, will be closed for water main break repairs on Monday morning,” according to a “City of Ames” Facebook post.

The post says to use caution near the intersection of Lincoln Way and Welch Ave.
