LETTER:Congrats to women’s swimming and diving
December 13, 2001
I just wanted to say congratulations to the ISU women’s swimming and diving team for its outstanding performance Saturday against Iowa. It was the first time the Cyclone women swimmers and divers beat Iowa since 1995.
I’m sure there weren’t very many victories over the Hawkeyes prior to that year.
Many people see swimming and diving as an “individual” sport. However, after watching the meet on Saturday, I can truly say that it was a team performance.
Not one person failed to do their part to step up for the team. It was definitely a team effort and one of the best performances that I have ever seen by a swimming and diving team.
Much of the Cyclones’ success can be attributed to their head coach, Duane Sorenson.
Duane took over the team in the fall of 1997 and has since turned the team around.
The team is only going to get better and better, and the students, athletic community and the Daily need to recognize this success and continue to support women’s swimming and diving, despite the fact that it is a non-revenue sport. Come out and support these athletes on Jan. 26 at Beyer Hall, where they will take on rival Missouri.
