LETTER:GSB still working for student body
December 17, 2001
We would like to thank the Iowa State Daily for being a watchdog on behalf of students. Although we may not always agree with the opinions of the Daily, we recognize them as an integral part of effective government. The Government of the Student Body is the advocate for the students of Iowa State.
Like all organizations, we realize we are not perfect.
But like the good ones, we are willing to make sacrifices to ensure that we are always getting better for the students of Iowa State.
Our focus is on students because we are students. We fight for what you want. Students raised their concerns about campus safety, alcohol abuse, affordable education, free speech and helping our fellow Americans. GSB has delivered with the largest student-sponsored campus lighting improvement in ISU history; the implementation of the B.R.A.D. 21 Program which informs students about the hazards of binge drinking; an increase of $2 million in additional financial aid available to students; we cut red tape so students’ First Amendment rights are fully available; and joining ISU students together to raise more than $20,000 to benefit the victims of the events on Sept. 11.
Next semester, GSB will be pursuing many new initiatives to benefit students.
We feel this is only the beginning. We look forward to all students asking us questions and more importantly giving us insight to the unique perspective each student brings to this university.
