Corey Ihmels named ISU men’s cross country coach
December 11, 2001
Corey Ihmels, a former ISU cross country and track athlete, has been
named ISU men’s cross country coach.
Ihmels replaces Kevin Bourke who resigned Oct. 23 to take the job as
director of sports and operations with the Iowa Games.
Ihmels graduated from Iowa State in 1997 where he was a six-time
All-American (twice in cross country, three times in indoor track and
once in outdoor track). He led the Cyclone cross country team to a third place national finish in 1993 and an NCAA title in 1994.
Ihmels, 27, has spent the past year and a half as an assistant coach at
Arizona State. He’ll began his new job at Iowa State on Thursday.
