Harrison’s family scatters ashes

Former Beatle George Harrison’s widow and son, along with two Hare Krishna devotees, scattered his ashes in India’s Ganges River early this morning.

Harrison died of cancer at the age of 58 last week.

He was known for studying Indian mysticism and Hinduism throughout his life, and studied with the Maharishi in the late ’60s.

Hindu rites were performed on Harrison’s ashes after he was cremated in London.

Ravi Shankar, an Indian sitar legend, was with Harrison before he died. “We spent the day before with him, and even then he looked so peaceful, surrounded by love,” read Shankar’s statement.

According to the Sunday Times of London, Harrison recorded a final 25-track album during his last months. He reportedly played some of the songs for family members in a hospital before his death.
