ISU employees pledged more than $235,000 to the United Way of Story County this fall, a record amount up almost 9 percent from last year’s campaign.

The $235,187 pledged by the ISU community was beyond its $223,000 goal and up 8.8 percent from last year’s campaign.

Frankee Oleson, director of the United Way of Story Country, attributes much of the campaign’s success to their outstanding volunteers and to Stan Johnson, vice provost for extension and chairman of the 2001 Story County/ISU campaign.

“We raise funds for 33 partner agencies within Story County,” Oleson said. All money will stay in Story County and go to helping local families.

Donations that are not designated to a particular organization are distributed to the partner agencies.

Donations for 2000-2001 were distributed to various areas of service, such as health, children’s, basic-needs and transformation services.

“We are very grateful to the many ISU volunteers and donors who have made this successful campaign possible,” Johnson said in a statement.
